Acrylic Painting
Acrylic Paints
There are lots of brands and price points for acrylic paints. It is OK to mix different brands of paints and in many cases old tubes of paints can work just fine as long as they aren’t dried up.
Here is a list of paint colors. The colors with the ! next to them are required and the others are fun optional supplements.
Required Colors:
Optional Colors
Brushes
Paint brush preferences vary a lot from artist to artist. If you already have some paint brushes and would like to learn more about your options before buying more, just bring what you have to the first class, and I can help you choose what else to get!
I recommend that you buy these brushes:
OPTIONAL: Bristle brush fan
Tools
Palette - A simple solution for easy clean up is a pad of “palette paper”.
OPTIONAL: Slow Dry Medium
OPTIONAL: misting spray bottle to keep colors moist
OPTIONAL: plastic wrap to save colors
OPTIONAL: Rags or paper towels for wiping off paint and cleaning up
Surfaces
Canvas boards in at least 11 x 14 inches
Canvas sheets pre-primed in at least 9 x 12 inches
If you want to play with texture and abstraction, I recommend bigger sizes for these surfaces. Up to 16 x 20 inches could be good, depending on how loosely you’d like to paint.
For larger than 16 x 20 inches or for more finished pieces, I recommend stretched canvases. I recommend buying stretched canvases from an in person store as they can get damaged in the mail.
